Viking Vengeance registration info
Registration is still open for the Viking Vengeance Twilight Run/Walk, which is scheduled for Thursday. Now in its sixth year, the event is a fundraiser for the Forest Grove High School cross country team, as well as the Forest Grove Youth Running Club for children in grades five through eight.
The event, which will be chip-timed, includes a 5-kilometer race, a kids run, and a 10K distance, which is new this year. Advance registration is $25 for participants age 14 and older and $15 for those 13 and younger. Registration increases by $5 on race day. The kids race is free.
Local resident wins triathlon
Marco Ramirez posted his second-ever overall win in a triathlon on Sunday at the Girlfriends and Dudes Triathlon in Vancouver, Wash.
A 2012 Forest Grove High School graduate, Ramirez covered the .5-mile swim, 12.5-mile bike ride and 3 mile run in 1 hour, 1 minute, 35 seconds. He defeated the runner-up, Andy Esner, by 2:13. A total of 265 participants finished the race.
Ramirez, 19, covered the swim in 10:17, the bike leg in 30:35 and the run in 18:48. Earlier this month, he finished second in the sprint-distance race at the Hagg Lake Triathlon near Gaston. Last year, he earned his first triathlon victory in a race in Lincoln City.
Canine-friendly run scheduled
A new running event, Paws in the Grove Doggie Dash, is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 3 in Forest Grove.
A fundraiser for the Forest Grove Senior & Community Center, the dash consists of 1- and 2-mile run/walk events and will start at Lincoln Park. Race-day registration will begin at 8:30 a.m., while the 2-mile race will start at 9:30, with the 1-mile distance beginning at 10 oclock.
Registration is $15 per dog. Registration forms are available at the senior and community center, and online registration is available at active.com. A $3 processing fee is charged for online registration.
A separate registration form must be completed for each pet, and all dogs must be current on vaccinations. The event will include agility demonstrations with an open course for participants to try, a Hillsboro K9 demonstration and pet vendors.

Triathlon returns to Hagg Lake
XTERRA Portland, an off-road triathlon and running event, is slated for Aug. 10-11. The weekend will consist of triathlon and duathlon races on Aug. 10 and trail run races on Aug. 11. All events will be staged at Henry Hagg Lake near Gaston.
The XTERRA Portland Off Road Triathlon consists of a full triathlon, a duathlon and a sprint triathlon. The full distance (points series) triathlon consists of a 1,000-meter swim, a 25-kilometer mountain bike ride on trails around the lake, and an 8K run on lakeside trails. The sprint distance is a 500-meter swim in the lake, a 21K mountain bike ride, and a 5K trail run. The duathlon consists of a 21K mountain bike ride and an 8K trail run. The points series triathlon and duathlon will begin at 9 a.m., and the sprint triathlon will start at 9:30 a.m.
