Tualatin takes two straight from Vikings
Forest Grove bounces back with a split against Glencoe to avoid an 0-4 start in conference play
Forest Grove got off to an inauspicious debut in Pacific Conference play, dropping a pair of baseball games against 10th-ranked Tualatin last week, then stumbling against Glencoe on Monday to cap a 1-3 start to the league season.
The Vikings lost 8-3 on the road against Tualatin last Tuesday and 5-1 at home on Wednesday before rallying with a 7-2 win over Glencoe on Friday.
Forest Grove jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning of that game, getting RBI singles from Jake Bennett and Stevan Izquierdo, and Kyle Townzen drove in a run in the fourth inning with his second base hit of the game.
Izquierdo went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Townzen was also 2-for-3.
Junior Gonzalez earned the win on the mound, scattering five hits over seven innings while allowing just one earned run.
The Vikings will look to bounce back this week with two games against Newberg.
