The Viking Vengeance Run/Walk is scheduled for Thursday, July 31.
The seventh annual event, a fundraiser for the Forest Grove cross-country program, includes a 5-kilometer run/walk and a 10K run. Proceeds toward the event help the Vikings travel to invitational meets, purchase gear and equipment and secure travel for off-campus practices.
The 10K run will start at 6:30 p.m., and the 5K run/walk will begin at 6:45. The start/finish area for both races is at the Forest Grove School District office, located at 18th Avenue and Main Street. The courses go through the Old Town area of Forest Grove and along the B Street nature trail.
Registration and packet pick-up will take place from 5:15 to 6 p.m. on race day, followed by a short (.14-mile) Future Cross Country Runner Kids Race for children 8 and younger at 6:15. Advance registration for the 5K/10K is $25 for participants age 14 and older and $15 for participants 13 and younger. The fee increases by $5 on race day. There is no fee for the kids race.

Youth bike camp begins July 27
USA Cycling is once again holding one of its Regional Talent ID Camps in Forest Grove next week. The camp is for cyclists ages 14-22 and will take place July 27 to Aug. 1 at Pacific University. Back for the fifth consecutive year in western Washington County, the camp has a road racing focus.
The Forest Grove camp is one of 13 such regional camps taking place across the country this year. The aim of the camps is to identify athletes who show signs of cycling potential at an early age. Campers will receive instruction in cycling fundamentals including training, nutrition and bike mechanics both in presentation settings and training sessions.
Prospective campers should have some training and racing experience and belong to USA Cycling. Tuition ranges from $750 to $850. Cyclists can also apply for grants to help offset the cost of tuition. See uscdf.org for more information.
