Forest Grove tabs new baseball, wrestling coaches

Chad Beatty takes over wrestling program and Todd Naskedov will coach baseball

Forest Grove High School filled its last two coaching vacancies earlier this month, announcing 27-year-old Chad Beatty as the school’s new varsity wrestling coach and 37-year-old Todd Naskedov as the next head of the baseball program.

Beatty comes to Forest Grove after an enormously successful career in wrestling-obsessed Iowa. He was a two-time high school state champion before attending the University of Iowa, where he twice qualified for the NCAA tournament and helped lead the Hawkeyes to three straight national championships from 2008-10.

Beatty began his coaching career with two seasons at Iowa City West High School, and he spent the last two years as an assistant at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa. In addition to his coaching duties, Beatty — who has a degree in 3D design — will teach art and drafting at Forest Grove.

Naskedov, meanwhile, is returning to the Pacific Northwest after a lengthy career coaching high school and college baseball in Arizona and Texas.

The Kelso, Wash., native got his first head coaching gig at Sehome High School in Bellingham, followed by a successful stint at Amphitheater High School in Tucson, Ariz., where Naskedov won multiple coach of the year honors and led the Cougars to a state title game appearance in 2006.

Since then, Naskedov has worked as a pitching coach at Pima Community College in Tucson and at McKinney Boyd High School in McKinney, Texas. He has also served a number of roles with USA Baseball, primarily helping with the selection of the 16U national team, which earned him gold medals in 2007 and 2008.

Naskedov will teach English at Forest Grove. He takes over for Kevin Tucker, who resigned as baseball coach in May to spend more time with his family.
