Gresham man arrested on decade-old sex abuse charges
A Gresham man was arrested on six counts of first-degree sex abuse at 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, at his home in the 600 block of Southeast Hogan Street.
Wesley Kirt Covington, 48, was taken into custody on a Clackamas County arrest warrant, according to a Gresham Police report.
The incidents occurred 10 to 12 years ago, said Sgt. Adam Phillips, spokesman for the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.
At the time of the six incidents, the victim was 14 years old, he said.
A warrant for Covington's arrest was issued and executed May 1. Covington was held at the Multnomah County jail on $1.5 million bail, and then transported Wednesday, May 2, to Clackamas County.
Under Oregon law, first-degree sex abuse occurs when an attacker subjects a victim to sexual contact or forced sexual contact, and the victim is 14 years old or younger or mentally incapacitated.
