A man who fatally stabbed a man last week is behind bars.

The U.S. Marshals Oregon Fugitive Task Force arrested Michael Dvon Leonard, 43, of Northeast Portland at 9 a.m. Monday, July 16, said Sgt. Pete Simpson, Portland police spokesman.

Officers arrested him without incident at Northeast 159th Avenue and Sandy Boulevard.

He is being held without bail at the Multnomah County Detention Center on an accusation of murder.

Leonard allegedly stabbed Dion Anthony Matthews, 40, just past midnight Thursday, July 12, during a fight in outer East Portland’s Wilkes neighborhood.

Matthews died of multiple stab wounds in the parking lot of the Village Garden Apartments at 15278 N.E. Sandy Blvd.

Leonard lived nearby in the 15800 block of Northeast Beech Street, which is just south of Sandy Boulevard, according to jail records.
