The Troutdale City Council has canceled a planned public meeting Tuesday, July 17, to discuss the investigation into a controversial building that was constructed on Mayor Jim Kight’s property.

The City Council hired a firm in 2011 to investigate a building that Kight had constructed on his property on Jackson Park Road next to the Sandy River. The building has caused controversy over whether it violates the city’s planning and development codes, chiefly regarding its size and its intended use.

The building has also raised concerns over whether Kight used his influence as an elected official to get city staff to approve the project.

The City Council has held two executive sessions, including one session Monday, July 16, to discuss the investigation. Executive sessions are closed to the public but open to representatives of the news media.

Councilors declined to comment on the meetings, citing advice from City Attorney David Ross.

The city will release details of upcoming meetings at a later date.
