Gresham woman elected to Lions board

The Oregon Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation announced Thursday, Aug. 9, the election of Marcia Hocker, a Gresham resident, to a one-year term on its board of trustees.

Hocker holds an FCC Third Class License, has been a drama instructor, president/CEO of her company TAGG (The Art of Good Grooming) and has volunteered to help those in need and the disabled.

She also was an administrative assistant at the nonprofit Low Vision Information Center in Bethesda, Md., and a volunteer host on KMHD 89.1 FM radio since 2001. While there she was appointed DJ laision and covered crisis management/conflict resolution. She later transitioned to Oregon Public Broadcasting and in April 2010 received the Jan Henderson Award for Leadership.

The foundation was founded in 1959 and serves as the nonprofit arm of the 175 Lions Clubs of Oregon with the mission “to screen, treat, save, and restore sight and hearing, in partnership with Lions Clubs, in order to prevent blindness and deafness for those in need.”

It funds sight and hearing saving surgeries and treatments, offers free preventive health screenings for vision, hearing, blood pressure, glaucoma and diabetes, recycles used eyeglasses and hearing aids and operates a low-vision clinic for youths.

Last year, more than 103,000 uninsured or under-insured people were served through seven direct service programs. More program information can be found at olshf.org.
