Corbett man charged with manslaughter following crash

by: MULTNOMAH COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE - Brian David LeymasterA Corbett man was charged with manslaughter after he reportedly struck and killed a motorcyclist Saturday, Aug. 25, in the 39100 block of Southeast Gordon Creek Road in Corbett.

Gar Riggs, 60, of Sandy was killed when his 1999 Yamaha motorcycle was struck head-on by a 2012 Dodge Ram truck, driven by Brian Leymaster, 42, of Corbett, according to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office.

Leymaster was arraigned in Multnomah County Circuit Court on Monday, Aug. 27, on two counts of manslaughter as well as charges of criminally negligent homicide, felony hit and run, driving under the influence of intoxicants and reckless driving.

Leymaster’s next court date was scheduled for Monday, Sept. 10.

Police said Leymaster’s truck had crossed the centerline and was in the wrong lane when it struck the motorcycle around 7:45 p.m. Saturday.

Leymaster reportedly left the scene but was later arrested on Sunday morning, Aug. 26, and lodged at the Multnomah County Inverness Jail. His total bail for all the charges was listed at $535,000.

Southeast Gordon Creek Road was closed for about four hours during the Multnomah County Vehicular Crimes Team’s investigation. The Multnomah County Rural Fire Protection District 14 and the Multnomah County Roads Department assisted at the scene.
