Man who crashed motorcycle cited for DUII

A man who crashed his motorcycle Saturday, Oct. 6, in the Carver area was intoxicated, police say.

Michael J. Miersma, 24, of Happy Valley was cited for driving under the influence of intoxicants after the 4:50 p.m. crash on Highway 224 east of Carver, said Lt. Gregg Hastings, Oregon State Police spokesman.

Miersma was riding a 1999 Honda motorcycle eastbound on the highway when he lost control, slid across the highway and crashed into a ditch near milepost 11, Hastings said.

He was transported via LifeFlight helicopter to Legacy Emanuel Hospital and Health Center in Portland with non-life-threatening injuries. He was wearing a helmet, Hastings said.

A “subsequent preliminary investigation indicated alcohol was a contributing factor” in the crash, and Miersma was cited for DUII, Hastings added.
