An East County man was arrested and lodged at Multnomah County Detention Center early Saturday morning on accusations of first-degree robbery, second-degree assault, fourth-degree assault and menacing after Troutdale Police say he broke into a house, assaulted the homeowner and stole a laptop.

Michael Bidema, 32, was arrested while playing video poker at a restaurant in Gresham off 181st Avenue by Gresham police. The second suspect had not been found as of the Outlook’s press time.

Troutdale Police were dispatched to 1647 S.W. 22nd St. at 5:27 a.m. Oct. 27 to a home invasion at knife point, according to Sgt. Steve Bevens.

The two suspects had left on foot.

The homeowner said he was sleeping in bed when two men broke through his front door and assaulted him while holding a large knife attached to a deer antler. He suffered multiple injuries, including a broken nose, and was treated by medical technicians.

After receiving information that Bidema was playing video poker at a Gresham restaurant, police arrested him. They recovered a knife matching the description from a vehicle Bidema had driven. The laptop was not found.
