Casino ballot measures flop

Voters reject private casino bid in Wood Village

State measures 82 and 83, which would have changed the Oregon constitution regarding casinos and allowed for a private nontribal casino to be built in Wood Village, were soundly defeated in Multnomah County.

State Measure 82 was opposed by 74.94 percent and Measure 83 was opposed by 74.04 in Thursday’s returns. Statewide, the measures failed by 71.68 and 70.77 percent, respectively, in Thursday’s returns.

“It was a repeat of 2010,” said Cynara Lilly, spokeswomen for the anti-casino campaign. “A wholehearted rejection. It’s clear Oregon voters don’t want to change their constitution and change the culture of Oregon.

“Oregonians don’t want to break a promise to the tribes,” she said.
