A woman accused of killing a 10-year-old Fairview girl was arraigned Tuesday afternoon in Multnomah County Circuit Court on seven charges, including criminal mistreatment and coercion.

Fairview Police, along with East Multnomah Major Crimes Team, are investigating the death of Miranda Crockett, a fifth grader whose body was discovered by authorities at 6:50 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 24.

Chandra Ilene Rose, the live-in girlfriend of Crockett's father, was arrested at 4:26 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26. She is being held on $100,000 bail at the Multnomah County Detention Center. With Crockett's father at work, Rose, 34, was the only adult at the couple's unit in the Kings Garden Apartments in the 2700 block of Northeast 207th Avenue in Fairview when police arrived.

Rose faces six counts of first-degree criminal mistreatment and one count of coercion; however, it is still unclear how Crockett died.

The Multnomah County Medical Examiner has conducted an autopsy but has not determined a cause of death.

According to the court's charging documents, Rose is accused of forcing Crockett to “engage in conduct” by threatening her with physical injury. She also allegedly injured the girl and withheld necessary physical care.

Rose was issued a court-appointed attorney and her next court appearance is scheduled for 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 5.

The girl's relatives are struggling to cope with their loss. They want to share their fond memories of Miranda but wish not to be named. by: CONTRIBUTED PHOTO - Miranda Crockett, 10, dreamed of becoming a rock star.

Miranda spent the summer with her paternal grandmother and step-grandfather in New Mexico. Her grandmother remembers going to the library to read children's books and feeding the geese with her granddaughter.

Miranda dreamed of becoming a rock star, so her grandfather video taped her singing the songs of her favorite musicians, like Carley Rae Jepsen and Justin Bieber.

She was also a social girl. Whenever they went to a restaurant, she wouldn't sit down because she wanted to walk around and make friends with everyone, her grandmother said.

“She was so full of life and love,” she said. “She loved everyone. She was so happy.”

Miranda's father, Dan Crockett, was granted sole custody of his daughter shortly after she was born, relatives said.

“He was her mom and her dad,” Miranda's grandfather said.

Dan, who works as a caregiver for elderly people, knew Rose for 15 years before they began dating more than a year ago, according to Miranda's grandfather. Rose and her three children moved in with Dan and Miranda over the summer.

The children have been taken into protective custody, said Fairview Police Chief Ken Johnson.

Family and friends set up an online account to pay for Miranda's funeral expenses, which the family cannot afford, her grandfather said.
