The Gresham Police Department has installed a permanent drop box where residents can safely dispose of expired or unused prescription and over-the-counter drugs.

“No questions will be asked about who the prescription was made out to or the type or amount brought in,” said Chief Craig Junginger. “This is a public safety issue. We want to keep unused prescription drugs from being misused, and we also want help keep them out of our water supply.”

The drop box is located in the lobby of the Gresham Police Department located at 1333 N.W. Eastman Parkway. Drugs may be dropped off 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

People are asked to remove or mark out personal information on the containers such as name, phone number and prescription number before dropping them in the box.

The box is in response to successful drug take-back days hosted by the city during which citizens brought in unwanted prescription drugs for safe disposal. During the last drug take-back event, more than 20,000 pills/controlled substances and narcotics like Oxycodone, Hydrocodone and Vicodin were collected.
