Five runners from East County area at Boston Marathon

Five East Multnomah County runners participated in Monday’s Boston Marathon. Four runners from Gresham and one from Troutdale took part in the 26.2-mile race.

Gresham residents Kyle Kersey, Rod Lundgren, Ralph McAfee and May Wedlund, along with Troutdale dentist Mark Dorrough, are listed on the Boston Marathon’s website as participants.

McAfee and Dorrough finished before the first bomb exploded at the finish line 4 hours, 9 minutes and 43 seconds into the race. A second bomb detonated a block away 12 seconds later.

Although the Boston Marathon’s website has Kersey finishing approximately 4 minutes after the blasts, he actually finished about nine minutes before.

Lundgren, who was just a minute behind Kersey at the halfway point, has no finish time listed on the website. Wedlund also has no half time or finish time listed.

After the bombs exploded, the remaining runners were diverted away from the finish line to Boston Common and Kenmore Square.

Estacada resident Matt Mariani also ran the marathon and finished more than an hour before the blasts.

No runners from Wood Village, Fairview, Corbett, Boring, Damascus or Sandy are listed on the Boston Marathon’s website.

A total of nearly 27,000 people registered for the run, which draws about 500,000 spectators, according to Wikipedia. The Boston Marathon is the world’s oldest annual marathon, dating back to 1897.
