The vehicles were involved in approximately five different crashes spread out over a mile and a half on westbound Interstate 84 between Corbett and Rooster Rock State Park, at about 4 p.m. said Oregon State Police Senior Trooper Duane Larson.

Torrential downpours, wet roadways and heavy Memorial Day weekend traffic contributed to the collisions, he said.

No names have been released at this time.

State troopers, Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office deputies, firefighters from the Corbett-based Multnomah County Rural Fire Protection District 14, American Medical Response paramedics and state transportation officials responded to the scene.

The crashes closed the westbound lanes for approximately 90 minutes.

Some of the vehicles had to be towed from the area. No citations were issued.
