Gang shootings, including one that killed a man in Gresham a week ago, are part of a pattern of gang violence

Portland and Gresham police are now investigating a total of four possibly gang-related shootings in East Multnomah County to take place in the course of a week.

At 3:15 p.m. Sunday, June 16, shots rang out in an apartment complex parking lot in the 15800 block of East Burnside Street, said Lt. Michael Marshman, Portland Police spokesman.

A stray bullet shot through an apartment bedroom window, but nobody was injured.

Witnesses reported three vehicles screeching out of the parking lot immediately after the shooting. Four people were detained for questioning, but no arrests made.

at 10:25 p.m. Thursday, June 13, a man was shot in the hip – then hit by a hit-and-run driver – while running away from the shooter.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the victim was with a group of people when several African American males confronted them, said Sgt. Pete Simpson, Portland Police spokesman.

One of the suspects pulled a gun and fired several rounds. At least two vehicles then fled the scene.

The victim was transported to a Portland hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
