Donations needed for SnowCap auction

Planning for next year's event just started with an invitation to donate items for silent and oral auctions

SnowCap Community Charities, which provides food and clothing for low-income residents of East Multnomah County, is kicking off its plans for next year's Valentine dinner/auction fundraiser with an open invitation for donations.

The agency's auction committee is seeking more than 300 donations for the silent auction and 15 activities for the oral auction, taking place Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at the Airport Holiday Inn.

The event includes dinner and both auctions. Cost is $60 per person, and reservations are recommended.

The goal for next year's event is to raise $65,000, money that's essential to serve the growing low-income community in east Multnomah County, said Judy Alley, SnowCap's executive director.

Diane Liefeld of Gresham, who along with her husband James is a SnowCap board member, also will serve as the fundraiser's chairwoman. "SnowCap's need for community support has never been greater," she said, adding that the nonprofit agency receives no government funding. "Hundreds of families and individuals rely on SnowCap. The Valentine event is of utmost importance to our human service activities, which touch more than 8,000 persons each month."

The Valentine dinner/auction is SnowCap's major fundraising event. Liefeld says the agency's auction committee just this week started planning next year's event, including a call for donations.

More than 300 donations for the silent auction and 15 activities for the oral auction are needed.

Typical oral auction items include vacation getaways; fishing, golfing and other sporting venues; timeshare accommodations; hotel-restaurant packages; and professional and personal services.

"We are always open to something new," Liefeld said.
