Outlook ranks among best in the state

The Outlook, Sandy Post, Estacada News newspapers gather 22 awards in 2013 Better Newspapers Contest


The Outlook and the Estacada News rank among the best newspapers of their size in the state, having taken second place in the general excellence category of the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association 2013 Better Newspaper Contest.

The results were released Friday, July 19.

The Outlook is in the division for multi-issue weeklies with any level of circulation. The Sandy Post competes in the division that includes weekly newspapers with circulations between 2,001-3,000. The Estacada News competes among weeklies with circulations between 1,001-2,000.

All three newspapers are part of Community Newspapers Inc., a division of Pamplin Media Group.

In addition to the awards in the general excellence category, staff members of The Outlook, Sandy Post and Estacada New won individual awards.

Best Coverage of Business and Economic Issues

• First place: Scott Jorgensen, Estacada News, “Adding to Estacada's industrial base.”

• Second place: Anne Endicott, The Outlook, “Gimme some sugar.”

• Third place: Steven Brown and Mark Garber, The Outlook.

Best Education Coverage
