People for Parks Oregon is hosting a variety of summer events through Aug. 25, at Vance Park, S.E. 182nd Ave., Gresham.

All programs are free to the public, with parking north of Ascension Lutheran Church.

Upcoming events include:

Friday, Aug. 2

• 11:30 a.m. — The Bug Chicks.

• 1 p.m. — Kaiser Permanente/ The Oregon Children’s Theatre “Smarty Pants,” a fun, health-focused game show for adults and children.

Friday, Aug. 16

• 12:30 p.m. — Rockwood Water Pud, a fun water program for kids.

Saturday, Aug. 17

• 1-2 p.m. — The Oregon Zoo “Furry Critters.”

Sunday, Aug. 25

• 2-4 p.m. — End of summer butterfly release party and parade.

Additionally, families can take self-guided tours of the children’s garden at Vance Park 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays.

State Program helps struggling home owners

A new state foreclosure program will offer up to $30,000 in assistance for struggling homeowners throughout Oregon. The “Home Rescue Program” will provide monthly mortgage payments of up to $20,000 and reinstatement payments of up to $10,000 to homeowners in Clackamas, Multnomah and Washington counties beginning August 28.

To qualify, homeowners must demonstrate at least a 10 percent reduction in current income compared to 2011 or 2012 among other eligibility criteria.

The program aims to assist approximately 2,500 homeowners and is funded by the US Treasury’s “Hardest Hit Fund” and administered by the Oregon Housing and Community Services program.

Homeowners can apply online every two weeks at noon.
