Construction closes road for a week
Powell Valley Road from Burnside to Kane to close from Aug. 19-23
Southeast Powell Valley Road will be closed from Northeast Burnside Road to Southeast Kane Drive for paving and pedestrian improvements for one week from Monday, Aug. 19 through Friday, Aug. 23.
The road will not reopen at night during construction, said Laura Shepard, city of Gresham spokeswoman.
Local access will only be given only to emergency vehicles and landlocked properties during construction.
The road project uses a recycling process called full depth reclamation, a method of reconstructing streets using materials from the existing road that is less expensive and faster than traditional methods.
"Cost of recycling road materials on site is 25 percent to 50 percent less than the cost of removing and replacing materials," Shepard said. In addition, work that could take a month with traditional methods, can now be done within one week, weather depending.
Improvements on Southeast Powell Valley Road include a reconditioned street surface; revised roadway striping to add an additional west-bound travel lane; new sidewalk connection between Gordon Russell Middle School and Burnside Road that completes a continuous walking connection from Burnside to Kane; new bicycle lanes; and rain gardens to improve water quality.
Once the project is complete with new bicycle lanes, parking will no longer be allowed on Southeast Powell Valley Road.
