ANDEO International Homestays is seeking families with students at Gresham High School to host Japanese students from Sano Nichidai Super Science High School in Sano, Japan, Oct. 6-13.

Host families provide students room, board and a welcoming environment, receiving a small stipend to help offset the cost of hosting.

Students bring their own spending money and are covered by insurance.

During their visit, Sano students will participate in morning English as Second Language and science courses, collaborating with Gresham High students on a science project.

In the afternoons, they will participate in organized activities, spending the evenings and weekends getting to know their host families.

In Japan the exchange students are learning English, forest resources, geoscience, genetic analysis and PIC microcomputers.

The exchange between Gresham High and Sano Nichidai High School began in 2007 and has since become an annual tradition.

In June, a group of 10 students from Gresham High visited Sano with their Japanese teacher, Tara Hieggelke.

Established in 1981, ANDEO is a Portland-based nonprofit organization that welcomes more than 1,500 students to the Pacific Northwest for short-term homestays each year.
