Peanut butter drop-off site added

A second collection site has been created as part of a local campaign to collect 1,000 jars of peanut butter for SnowCap Community Charities by the end of the month.

Donated jars can be dropped off at Park Place Coffee, 1288 S.E. 182nd Ave., as well as Donut World, 720 N.E. Burnside Road.

Two East Multnomah County residents - Susan McGee and Victoria Davis - launched the effort to help SnowCap meet a growing demand for the protein-rich, kid-pleasing pantry staple.

Peanut butter is in short supply because of a drought in the nation's peanut-growing states, and costs have spiked more than 30 percent.

As a result, peanut butter is now a rare and coveted donation at places like the Oregon Food Bank and SnowCap Community Charities. All while demand for emergency food boxes in Oregon and southwest Washington jumped 12 percent during the last fiscal year.

Cash donations, which will be used to buy peanut butter, can be sent to the Peanut Butter Project, Box 417, Boring, 97009.
