Howatt places third at spelling championship

Cheyenne Howatt of Gresham placed third in her division (grades 6-8) this year at the Oregon Statewide Spelling Championship.

The event was held at the Oregon State Fair on Saturday, Aug. 31, and was broken into three divisions — elementary, middle and high school.

Orient Grade School students reunite

All attendees of Orient Grade School and their families are invited to an “old timers” potluck reunion from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, at the Pleasant Home Methodist Church, 31632 S.E. Bluff Road.

The church is 10 blocks past the Multnomah Grange in Orient on Bluff Road, at the corner of 316th Avenue by the Pioneer Cemetery.

Oregon Safe Schools & Communities Coalition is accepting nominations for its Safe School Awards, a way of recognizing efforts throughout communities to address bullying and harassment in Oregon schools.

Awards will be announced in conjunction with Safe Schools Weeks at the second annual Safe School Awards at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, at Q Center in Portland.
