Tour historic landmarks in Troutdale

Take a tour of Troutdale’s historic landmarks with the city’s Historic Landmarks Commission at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30.

Local historian Sharon Nesbit, along with commissioners, will lead the tour taking interested participants to view landmarks designated historic throughout the city limits. From the window of a city van, tour leaders will talk about the history of places such as the Depot building downtown, Harlow House and Troutdale Methodist Episcopal Church.

The tour also includes natural historic sites including the Alfred Baker Copper beech tree on the corner of South Troutdale Road and Southeast Stark Street and a row of black walnut trees growing in the 4200 block on the east side of Troutdale Road. The Douglas and Mountain View pioneer cemeteries are also on the list.

Troutdale Senior Planner Elizabeth A. McCallum said anyone interested in the history of Troutdale will enjoy the ride around town.

Participants are encouraged to ask questions, give feedback and/or offer ideas to commissioners on other old sites that could be better preserved in Troutdale.

If you would like to join the tour, meet no later than 3:15 p.m. at the City Conference Building parking lot at 223 S. Buxton Road in Troutdale.

The tour is open to the public and should be no longer than two hours long.

Carpools will be arranged as necessary.
