A 25-year-old man struck by a car on Friday has died.

Joseph Randall Stone died on Saturday night after being struck by a vehicle at 8:51 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4, when an eastbound SUV hit Stone as he was in a crosswalk crossing Southeast Division Street from south to north. An ambulance transported him to a hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

The 49-year-old man driving the vehicle that struck the pedestrian remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, said Sgt. Pete Simpson, Portland Police spokesman.

Detectives with the Major Crash Team have not issued any citations. Neither the driver nor the pedestrian were impaired by drugs or alcohol.

Stone's family has asked that the city of Portland install flashing lights at the crosswalk where he was struck to prevent other pedestrians from being hit.
