MHCC hosts gluten-free food fair

More than 40 businesses that specialize in gluten-free products will visit Mt. Hood Community College for a gluten-free food fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, in the Vista Dining Center.

“As a registered dietitian, I want my students to learn about the most common nutrition-related disorders so they can serve as an integral part of a healthcare team in the future,” said Jack Brook, a nutrition instructor.

Brook said students have the opportunity to learn about the digestive system and gastro-intestinal disorders, including those related to gluten.

Along with hearing from local experts on “gluten-free 101" at 11 a.m., participants will have a chance to sample gluten-free food products and ask questions about food preparation and nutritional content.

They also will learn about gluten-related health disorders and how to support family members who suffer from gluten sensitivity or celiac disease.

A raffle for gluten-free foods and products will be held.

The event is sponsored by the science division of MHCC and the Gluten Intolerance Group. Admission is free for students and employees with photo ID, $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and children.
