Girl, 9, dies in SUV roll-over
The driver in a fatal single-vehicle wreck near Troutdale has been arrested and faces multiple accusations, including first-degree manslaughter and driving under the influence of intoxicants.
Troutdale police arrested Mattie Spino, 31, of Dallesport, Wash., at about 10:40 a.m. Friday. Spino is suspected of being behind the wheel when the full-sized SUV veered off the pavement in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 84, just east of Exit 17.
The vehicle was on it top in the center median when police and rescue personnel arrived.
A 9-year-old girl died and a 7-year-old boy was airlifted to a local hospital following the wreck, which occurred at about 7:20 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21. There were five children and two adults in the SUV. The remaining three children and two adults including Spino also were transported by ambulance to local hospitals.
Spino has since been lodged at the Multnomah County Detention Center. In addition to first degree manslaughter and DUII, she also faces accusations of second-degree manslaughter, third-degree assault, fourth-degree assault, reckless endangering and reckless driving.
The remaining names of those involved are not being released at this time at the request of the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office. The accident is under investigation by the East County Vehicle Crimes Team.
