Neighbor catches burglars in the act

Two men arrested for burglary attempt at Gresham home

A neighbor’s call to 9-1-1 led to the arrest of two men who were in the middle of burglarizing a Gresham home, said Lt. Claudio Grandjean, spokesman at Gresham Police.

Tyler W. BeardFernando Silonsochilt-CalixtoTyler W. Beard, 19, a transient, and Fernando Silonsochilt-Calixto, 21, were arrested and charged with first-degree burglary. Beard also was charged on an outstanding warrant for robbery.

Both men were lodged at the Multnomah County Detention Center.

Police were called to the 600 block of Northwest Eleven Mile Court at midnight Thursday, Nov. 21.

A neighbor reported seeing two suspicious men walk by her house. One man was carrying a backpack, the woman said.

She then saw the men try to push open the front door of a nearby house.

She watched them disappear into the backyard.

The caller knew her neighbors weren’t home, so she called 9-1-1, Grandjean said.

Arriving officers surrounded the home.

They heard banging inside the house, said Grandjean, before two men strolled out with three backpacks full of stolen property in tow.

The men ran when an officer confronted them, but they were quickly captured, Grandjean said.

The stolen property was returned to the homeowners.

Detectives are investigating the possibility of more burglary victims in the area, Grandjean said.

Gresham Police remind citizens there is no better crime prevention than alert neighbors who observe and report suspicious activity to police in their neighborhood, said Grandjean.
