Host a Japanese college student in your home

Families interested in hosting a Japanese college student for three weeks are encouraged to attend an informational meeting from 2:15-3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, in Room AC 1519 at Mt. Hood Community College.

The students, age 18 to 24, come from Ryukoku University to participate in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classes from 9 a.m. to noon weekdays, Feb. 15 to March 9, on the Gresham campus.

Students also take field trips, visiting downtown Portland, the Oregon Nikkei Legacy Center, Gresham High School, the Oregon coast and Mount Hood.

MHCC asks host families to provide breakfast and dinner each day, and ensure that students have transportation to and from MHCC.

Host families must speak English while the guest student is present.

An individual bedroom is preferred and a shared bathroom is acceptable.

Host families will receive a stipend to help defray additional household expenses.

A mandatory host family orientation will be held the evening of Jan. 24, time to be announced.
