The Troutdale Police Department named Sgt. Marc Shrake as the officer of the year, honoring his more than 20 years of service, during the department's annual awards ceremony Wednesday, Feb. 22.

Shrake has been involved in the countywide computer conversion, the emergency radio systems upgrade and the new in-car video systems. He also has taken on a major role in the design of the new police department. Shrake has also served on inter-agency teams including the Major Crimes Team and as a hostage negotiator on the SWAT team.

The department also gave a community award to Kathy Scott, a Neighborhood Watch block captain. Scott was credited with bringing her Neighborhood Watch program back to life. With her help, last summer's National Night Out event was attended by more than 100 people.
