Authorities have arrested a 20-year-old Portland man accused of killing a 20-year-old Gresham man during an altercation over illegal drugs in the 18400 block of East Burnside Road Monday night.

Gresham police arrested Joseph L. Wedge, of North Portland, Tuesday night as he was leaving an apartment in East Gresham, said Sgt. Claudio Grandjean, spokesman for the Gresham Police Department.

Wedge is accused of murder for allegedly stabbing Jeffrey Gaboury, an acquaintance, with a knife during a fight about money owed for illegal drugs.

Police say Wedge fled the scene, and authorities arrived to find Gaboury bleeding.

Gaboury died of his wounds at the hospital, marking Gresham's first homicide of 2012.

Investigators with Gresham police and East County Major Crimes team said they followed leads provided by witnesses, and eventually found Wedge when he was seen on surveillance video leaving an East Gresham apartment complex.
