Boy recovering from shotgun blast

An 8-year-old Gresham boy is talking with doctors at a local hospital and recovering more quickly than expected after he was accidently shot with a shotgun at his home this weekend, Gresham police reported Monday afternoon.

Around 2:19 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, police responded to a home in the 17900 block of Southeast Marie Street on the report a boy who had been shot in the abdomen.

The boy had been taken to a local hospital by his family and immediately transported to another hospital via ambulance where he underwent surgery for a single gunshot wound.

Detectives responded and their investigation determined the boy was accidently shot by his father while the father was putting the shotgun into a gun safe.

The family is cooperating fully with police.

Their names are not being released as the investigation continues. The boy and his family are requesting privacy as they process the accident. No other information is available at this time.
