Mike Shettel, 58, had been missing on the Columbia River since Dec. 16

The body of Mike Shettel, who had been missing on the Columbia River since Dec. 16, was found Wednesday, Jan. 22, according to his wife.

Ginger Shettel said her husband’s body was found not far from her home on Marine Drive by a family friend, who “had a hunch” to look in a certain area.

“He felt he needed to go look and found him at the next marina,” she said. “At least it brings me some closure.”

Mike Shettel had been working on a nearby houseboat when he disappeared and his wife suspects that he may have had a heart attack.

The body was turned over to the Multnomah County Medical Examiner, she said.

Shettel said she is grateful to all her family and friends for their support during this month of waiting and hoping that he would be found. She said she will talk with her husband’s family in the coming days to plan a memorial service.
