Kenneth Garrison, former state trooper, arrested at Gresham motel

Garrison was accused of raping a 5-year-old in 2001, but the case was dropped

by: MULTNOMAH COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE - Kenneth GarrisonGresham police assisted the Clark County (Washington) Sheriff's Office in the arrest of an alleged sex offender, a former Washington state trooper, at 6:40 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29 at the Rodeway Inn on Northeast 181st Avenue in Gresham.

Kenneth Garrison, 50, of Vancouver, Wash. faces multiple counts of sexual abuse, allegedly involving a relative. Garrison is a former member of Washington State Patrol and resigned in December of 2013. He also served as a lieutenant colonel with the Washington Army National Guard. He retired on Jan. 27, 2014.

Sgt. Kevin Allias of the Clark County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit said detectives had been following Garrison for some time. He was alone when arrested and did not resist arrest.

“We had worked with the East Metro SWAT team and the Gresham police to establish a plan for taking him down,” Allias said.

Garrison, who waived extradition from Multnomah County, appeared before a Clark County judge Friday, Jan. 31 to face formal charges.

According to KOIN-TV 6 News, in 2001 Garrison was accused of child molestation and first-degree rape of a 5-year old child when he was living in Kalama, Wash. The charges were dropped in 2003 "without prejudice," meaning that if if circumstances were to change, prosecution would go forward.

"That's why I have the case sitting on my desk," Cowlitz County prosecutor Susan Baur told KOIN Thursday, Jan. 30.
