Police detain two when stolen car rolls over embankment

A man and woman were detained Thursday morning after they crashed a stolen car and rolled down an embankment on Northwest Marine Drive, said Sgt. Pete Simpson, spokesman at the Portland Police Bureau.

Medics treated both people for non-life-threatening injuries. As the investigation continues, police have not yet identified the man or woman.

Police responded to the roll-over crash on Northwest Marine Drive near 33rd Avenue at 9:38 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, Simpson said.

According to police, a green Saturn sedan was traveling east on Marine Drive in the westbound lanes and two oncoming vehicles swerved to avoid a collision.

The two vehicles — a large box truck and an SUV — sideswiped the Saturn, which then hit a guardrail and rolled down the embankment, Simpson said.

Officers learned the Saturn was reported stolen. Police shut down one lane on Marine Drive while the scene was cleared.
