Gresham man arrested on rape, assault warrants
Multnomah County sheriff's deputies on Saturday, March 31, arrested a man with two outstanding rape warrants after he tried lying about his identity.
Cheoluson Cheipot, 29, of Gresham was arrested at 8:25 p.m. Saturday at an apartment complex in the 600 block of Northeast 162nd Avenue after sheriff's patrol deputies responded to a disturbance at the address, said Lt. Steve Alexander, spokesman for the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies arrested Cheipot on warrants from three incidents dating back nine to six years: two counts of first-degree rape from 2005; a fourth-degree assault domestic violence warrant from 2003; and driving under the influence of intoxicants and reckless driving from 2006. He is being held at the Multnomah County jail in lieu of $505,000 bail.
When deputies arrived at the Gresham address on Saturday night, Cheipot gave them a false name, Alexander said. But as deputies gathered more information from him, they discovered his real identity and the outstanding warrants.
'It took them a little while, but they did,' Alexander said. 'That was good work by those deputies.'
