Porterfield receives Triple C honor at Centennial

Mark Porterfield, assistant principal at Centennial High School, has been chosen as the 2014 Triple C Staff Recognition Award recipient by the Centennial School District.

Porterfield was honored and awarded a plaque at the May 28 School Board meeting.

Porterfield has spent his entire career working at the high school, beginning in 1983 as a teacher, activities director and coach. He became assistant principal in 1997.

Porterfield attended Centennial schools, graduating from Centennial High in 1974.

The Triple C Centennial Recognition Award is intended to recognize outstanding employees for their personal and professional contributions in helping and inspiring students and co-workers to perform at high levels.

In his nomination, Porterfield was lauded for his positive attitude and big heart. The 19 letters of support from students and school personnel described Porterfield’s passion for Centennial and how he always has time for students and staff.

Many students gave examples of Porterfield’s positive impact on their lives.

Portland Lutheran offers summer programming

The Portland Lutheran School Blue Jay Summer Programs will highlight music, art, games, academics and more all summer.

Open to kindergarten through fifth-grade students, the program runs from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 9 through Aug. 15.

There will be three session times and two different costs. All programs are based on a full session, not per hour.

Morning session: 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. for $20; afternoon session: 11 p.m. to 5 p.m. for $20; and all-day: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for $30.

A nonrefundable deposit of $30 saves your spot and is applied to the total cost. Participants bring their own lunches.

Free lunches, breakfasts through Gresham-Barlow

The Gresham-Barlow School District is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided to all eligible children free of charge.

The program will run at various sites with meals served at no charge to children up to age 18. All meals must be eaten on site. Visit www.summerfoodoregon.org for up-to-date information regarding summer food sites in the Gresham-Barlow District.
