Grampy's Deli robbery was an inside job

Husband and wife planned caper

The early morning May 20 robbery of Grampy's Corner Deli on Northwest Fairview Drive was an inside job, according to Gresham police.

Lt. Claudio Grandjean of the Gresham Police Department said Filicity Ann Houston, 26, was the sole employee and no one else was in the story the morning of May 20 when a man came in with what appeared to be a gun, ordered her to lie on the ground and then took an undisclosed amount of cash.

As detectives later learned, the robber was Houston's husband, Justin James Young, 24, of Gresham.

Young used an airsoft pistol as part of his plan to make it look like the business was being robbed and not just an employee-related theft, according to Lt. John Rasmussin of the Gresham Police Department.

“The robbery was a hoax, with both Young and Houston in on the planned theft from Grampy's,” Rasmussin said.

Houston and Young have met with detectives and are cooperating with police, according to police. The Multnomah County district attorney's office plans to pursue charges against Young and Houston of first-degree theft, criminal conspiracy to commit first-degree theft and initiating a false report.
