Tour showcases East County gardens

Go for a drive in the country and tour six East Multnomah County gardens from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 28.

Put on by the Multnomah District Garden Clubs, this self-guided garden tour will take you to a variety of home gardens mostly in the Boring area.

According to one of the event’s coordinators, all of the gardens have views of farming fields, Mount Hood or secluded forest. Ponds, waterfalls and streams also add to many of these beautifully landscaped gardens.

One property even has a miniature “fairy garden,” imagined by the homeowner and her grandchildren.

Tickets are $15 per person and come with a description of the gardens and a map of their locations. Children under 6 are free.

Purchase tickets at Boring Bark, 30265 Oregon Highway 212 in Boring, or call Janet Conley at 503-723-0239, or Carolyn at 503-661-1003.

Celebrate pet ownership with furry friends

Legacy Hospice is inviting the community members to brag about their four-legged friends at a Pet Show Off, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 21, at Main City Park in Gresham.

Along with pet and family friendly activities, the event will include a parade and pet pageant with prizes.

Animals can compete in a variety of categories including best costume (pet/owner), bushiest tail, best tail wag, dog-owner look alike, best kisser and best trick.

The Pet Show Off is being held in conjunction with Legacy Hospice’s Pet Peace of Mind program, which provides local hospice patients with no-cost assistance pet care during the end of life process.

All activities are free, but opportunities to support the Pet Peace of Mind program will be available.

Registration opens at 10 a.m. in the Coho Shelter at Main City Park, 219 S.E. Main Ave., Gresham.
