Police arrest Fairview man, seize heroin
A Fairview man was arrested Saturday, April 14, in southwest Oregon after he and a Vancouver, Wash., man were found to have more than 1 pound of heroin concealed in their vehicle.
Gerardo Elizondo-Arias, 41, of Fairview and Jose Manuel Hernandez-Orozco, 27, of Vancouver were northbound on Interstate 5 in a 1997 Honda Accord when an Oregon State Police trooper stopped the car at 5:54 p.m. for a traffic violation, police said.
With the assistance of a Sutherlin police officer, the trooper found about 1.1 pounds of heroin and other evidence concealed in the car's trunk. Police said the heroin's estimated value was $11,000.
Elizondo-Arias, the passenger in the car, was arrested on accusations of unlawful possession and distribution of heroin, furnishing false information to a police officer and unlawful possession of false identification.
Hernandez-Orozco was arrested on an accusation of unlawful possession and distribution of heroin.
Both men were booked in Douglas County Jail. Elizondo-Arias' bail was set at $706,250, and Hernandez-Orozco's bail was set at $500,000.
