Injury not life-threatening
Gresham police report that a man was shot in the leg in the 800 block of Southeast 190th Avnue Wednesday, July 10. Several 911 calls reported the shooting around 8:47 p.m.
Detective John Rasmussen said witnesses heard several shots and then saw and injured man lying in the street.
Police arrived in less than a minute, he said, and found a 26-year-old Gresham man had a single gunshot wound to his right calf. He was admitted to a local hospital but his injury was not life-threatening.
According to Rasmussen, witnesses said the injured man had been in a physical fight in the middle of the street with another man in his 20s. The fight ended when the unidentified suspect brandished a pistol and shot (the victim) in the leg before fleeing the scene on foot, Rasmussen wrote in an email.
The East Metro Gang Enforcement Team helped with the investigation but the shooting does not appear to be gang-related, Rasmussen said. Investigators believe the victim and suspect have met before, but the victim is not forthcoming with information, Rasmussen said.
The shooting is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the Gresham police tip line at 503-618-2719 or 1-888-989-3505.
