The fourth annual Gresham Rotary Golf Tournament at Persimmon Country Club raised $25,000 for local charities Monday, July 14.

Funds raised will go to several nonprofits, including Birch Community Services, and Rotary also sends about 60 kids to the YMCA’s Camp Collins and contributes to Boy Scouts, My Father’s House and other Gresham nonprofit groups.

“Birch is probably our main beneficiary,” said Rotarian Tom Tutt. “And we raised about $8,000 from the ball drop.”

The ball drop consists of numbered golf balls dropped from a helicopter over the green, and the ticket holder for the ball closest to the pin wins $1,000. This year’s winner was Stely Malos of Gresham, who would have won $2,000 if his ball had gone in the cup.

“We also had a hole in one contest for a car from Weston Kia,” Tutt said. “Nobody ever wins, but everybody tries.”
