Gresham teen wins first at national leadership program


Robert Cantrell, 15, of Gresham placed first in the Four Star Leadership program’s Public Speaking Contest for his public speaking, critical thinking and research abilities.

Cantrell, a sophomore this fall at Sam Barlow High School was one of 50 participants in the week-long program held in Oklahoma City that offered leadership training, speech and debate competitions and scholarships.

Participants debated and researched the Affordable Care Act, how greenhouse gas emissions factor into economic growth, and minimum wage.

He was awarded a $3,000 scholarship and an additional $1,000 donation will be made to Barlow.
