Mt. Hood Kiwanis seeks volunteers for event

Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp is looking for volunteers to help with a C.A.S.T. for Kids event at the Bonneville Hatchery on Saturday, Aug. 16, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

C.A.S.T. — Catch a special thrill — is a non-profit foundation that helps disabled and disadvantaged children experience the joy of fishing with sponsors and community volunteers.

Cash donations are also being accepted to buy supplies and support transportation costs for the Cast crew. Each participant receives a fishing kids t-shirt, hat, rod and reel, and a special picture plaque to keep.

Volunteers are needed at the event to check-in, set-up and break down equipment. Individuals and groups are welcome to volunteer.

The kids will fish in groups on the river shore for up to 60 minutes, receiving instruction by experienced anglers on techniques and environmental stewardship.

Parents are encouraged to participate with their children, and prior to each fishing lesson, each group gets a tutorial on water safety.

Volunteers are provided snacks and lunch.

Every summer, Mt. Hood Kiwanis hosts a camp for children and adults with disabilities to explore the outdoors and work with counslors one-on-one.

The camp was founded by a Kiwanis club.
