Reynolds seeks new school board member

Following the resignation of Heather Chao from the Reynolds School Board, the district is seeking applicants for Position 1.

Board members will appoint a replacement to serve through June 30, 2015.

Board members must be registered voters who have resided within the Reynolds School District for at least one year.

The district’s board meets the second Wednesday of every month. Additional meetings and workshops are typically held the fourth Wednesday of most months.

In addition to its board vacancy, the Reynolds School District is seeking new budget committee members.

Interested parties should apply by Tuesday, Sept. 30.

Gorsek to hold town hall meeting on education

Rep. Chris Gorsek, D-Troutdale, will hold a town hall meeting from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, at Clear Creek Middle School in Gresham.

The focus of the meeting is issues facing Oregon schools, including the K-12 budget and initiatives to help schools hire more teachers to reduce class sizes.

Gresham-Barlow Superintendent Jim Schlachter and Oregon Department of Education fiscal analyst Michael Elliott will join the town hall.

MHCC invites community to share ideas

Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) has scheduled two outreach events in East Portland to help the college plan for the future.

District residents and the business community are encouraged to attend one of these sessions to provide input on how MHCC can best support the community’s education, economic and workforce needs.

MHCC president Dr. Debra Derr, board members and other East Portland community members will be present.
