Man arrested for animal abuse after throwing turtles
A 31-year-old Gresham man was arrested for animal abuse after he allegedly threw his wife's pet turtles across the room during a heated argument.
He was arrested at his home at 1:35 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, after an officer was dispatched for a domestic argument.
When the officer arrived, the woman reportedly said her husband had gotten so mad he picked up her turtles and threw them across the room.
She had recovered one, but the other was still missing. They eventually found it under the couch, according to the police report, but it wasn't moving.
They thought the turtle was dead, but when they were about to dispose of the body, it began moving. It apparently was just stunned, though, according to the police report, still not its normal self.
The officer arrested the man for second-degree animal abuse for throwing and injuring the turtles. He was booked at the Multnomah County Jail at 2:21 a.m. Tuesday and released on his own recognizance.
