Gresham Police looking into inappropriate texts between student and staff member

{filler:photo-filler-police-car-lights.jpg}Gresham Police are looking into allegations of inappropriate text messages between a female clerical staffer at Centennial High School and a male high school student, the Gresham Police Department said.

"Another student came forward, reported it, and as soon as they did, the school looked into it and determined it was a police matter," said Carol Fenstermacher, community engagement coordinator for the Centennial School District.

The school learned about the alleged texts on Friday, Feb. 9, and first notified the school resource officer.

The staff member was immediately placed on administrative leave and resigned her position, Fenstermacher said.

The school and district office are cooperating fully with the police investigation.

Currently, the allegations involve only one student, and investigators report there are no indications the two had any physical contact.

Fenstermacher and Gresham police declined to discuss any specifics about the alleged text messages or the case. She said she did not know if the two had made plans to meet.

"Because it is still an active investigation, we can't say anything," Fenstermacher said.

Gresham Police would like to talk with any student who may have been subjected to inappropriate contact with any school staff member, regardless of their position or place of employment.

Students are encouraged to talk with their guardians, doctor, trusted school staff, counselor or police if they have experienced abuse or inappropriate contact with an adult.

Students can also seek advice at or by texting teen2teen at 839863.
