'Critical injuries' on Marine Drive as car crosses center line
A three-vehicle crash injured two drivers and temporarily closed Marine Drive on Tuesday, Feb. 27 in Fairview.
Multnomah County Sheriff's deputies responded around 8:01 a.m. to reports of a car crash on Northeast Marine Drive just east of Blue Lake Road.
"Two drivers were injured and one was transported by Life Flight to a local hospital with critical injuries," police said in a news release.
Police say one car crossed into the oncoming lane of traffic, causing the accident that involved a silver sedan and two pickups. Each car had only one occupant, according to a report by KOIN 6 News, The Outlook's media partner.
The driver of the sedan was taken to the hospital by helicopter after first responders cut off the roof of the vehicle.
The posted speed limit on the roadway jumps up to 55 mph from 45 mph in that area, though officials haven't confirmed whether speed was a factor in the crash.
"This is always an area where we see excessive speed and we do have crashes from time to time," Sgt. Bryan White told the TV station.
Marine Drive is expected to be closed between Northeast 223rd Avenue and Blue Lake Road through 1 p.m. on Tuesday. Transportation officials recommend motorists use Interstate 84 or Northeast Sandy Boulevard to bypass the scene of the accident.
