LETTER: Protect Ginkgo trees outside Gresham High
The last few weeks I have been reading about proposed plans to renovate or demolish the Gresham High School building. I have fond memories of this building since I graduated from there in 1969 and my mother, Suzanne Shepperd, taught there for many years.
I am not sure what the best plans are for the building and for Gresham, but I do have concerns for the two mature Ginkgo trees out in front of the main entrance.
Geography teacher Hazel Newhouse, known to many of us as Hong Kong Hazel, instigated the plantings of these wonderful trees.
I hope that the planners, the city arborists, the historical society all are aware of these trees and plans are made to protect them and these plans are monitored closely.
